The establishment license of Bu-Ali Sina University was issued in 1973 and the university started its educational activities by admitting 200 students at different levels in 1976. The 250,000 square-meter area of the main campus of the university is located in a 205 acres area. The ratio of professors to students is 1 to 22 in the university. Currently the university hosts foreign students and international (non-Iranian) language learners from different countries who are interested in learning Persian; and hopefully the number of these students and language learners will increase in the not too distant future.
Bu-Ali Sina University annually admits about 5000 students through national examination at different levels in 310 disciplines. Furthermore, admission of students of exceptional talents in M.A and Ph.D. levels is done without examination. Since … the university also admits researchers in postdoctoral level. In line with the international activities of the university, currently a number of foreign students from different countries of the world are studying in the university. Also Center for Teaching Persian enrolls students with the aim of developing Persian.
By creating scientific infrastructure, including development of research laboratories, provision of access to libraries, electronic databases and other scientific resources, maintenance of constant connection with other science and research centers and holding science and technology events, Bu-Ali Sina University aspires to develop research and make it practical. This university is considered eminent in the country and the world regarding the field of chemistry and also rate of citations to the articles written by its faculty members. Also, Bu-Ali Sina University can be mentioned among the ‘one percent influential universities of the world’. Patenting several inventions in the field of engineering and winning multiple National Elites Foundation awards indicates the efforts of the researchers of this university. In line with the movement towards an entrepreneur university, the ‘Roshd’ centre, an affiliate of the university, has made a significant progress with regard to enrolling students and elites with innovative ideas and plans, and currently has 25 active firms in different fields.
Efforts have been made to create a convenient environment in the university for the living of students and activity of employees and professors. Delivery of proper services of residence, food and health; development and maintenance of sports and recreational facilities; planning and executing cultural, sports and social events, collectively aim at preparing the environment for educational and studious activity of students. The inn, residential houses and recreational complexes intended for employees and guests, along with cultural and sports areas for the activities of these individuals and their families are among the facilities of this university.
Bu-Ali Sina University supports extracurricular activities of individuals in the university. Contributing to the planning and execution of collegiate scientific events, channeling appropriate activities of associations, constitutions and clubs and supporting and directing voluntary activities of students, are among the activities of the university in this regard. Also opportunities have been provided for cultural and religious activities of the employees of the university which are currently active in the form of constitutions and clubs. Charity and non-profit activities aiming at development of educational, research and welfare environments are encouraged and supported by the university.
Bu-Ali Sina University consists of 14 faculties in the form of a main campus and five satellite campuses. Among these, 9 faculties are located in the main campus of the university. The other 4 faculties are located in satellite campuses in the cities of Bahar, Tuyserkan, Razan and Kabudarahang which admit and educate students in various majors according to the potentials of each city.
